CONGRATULATIONS: We are overjoyed to share the wonderful news that our Shona Choir has returned from the National Choir Competition in Johannesburg as FIRST-PLACE WINNERS! Heartfelt congratulations to every member for this remarkable achievement. Their dedication, discipline, and passion for sacred music have shone brightly, representing our parish with excellence and deep pride. We give thanks to the Lord for their safe travels and for blessing their efforts with such success. We celebrate not only their victory, but also their ongoing ministry, which lifts our worship and inspires our community. As a parish, we rejoice with them in this well-deserved triumph and express our sincere gratitude for their faithful service.
SHONA MASS: The Zimbabwean Community will celebrate their monthly Shona Mass on Sunday, 17 May at 12h00 in the Cathedral Hall. All are welcome to attend!
PARISH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND YOUTH: This Sunday, 10 May, tea and coffee will be served after the morning Masses at all three of our churches. We warmly invite everyone to join us for fellowship and community time. To make the occasion extra special, we would greatly appreciate donations of sweet treats to serve with the beverages. Items such as milk tart, koeksisters, doughnuts, and cupcakes are especially welcome. If you are able to contribute, please contact Evadne: 084 8749 137, Thandi: 073 3971 337 or Michelle: 082 475 6311.
MOTHER’S DAY RAFFLE: Support our youth on their journey to World Youth Day 2027 by buying a raffle ticket! Tickets are R25 and are available at the entrances of all parish churches. Alternatively, email Cara-Mia Moses at cmmoses12@gmail.com for tickets. Thank you for your support! The raffle will be run until the end of May.
MOTHER’S DAY: On this Mother’s Day, we honour mothers for their vital role in nurturing faith, love, and religious education, often serving as the first teachers of spirituality in the home. We also give thanks for godmothers and all women—known and unknown—who quietly and faithfully support the spiritual growth of others. We turn to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, as our model of faith and devotion, trusting in her intercession and the comfort of God’s loving care. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we ask her intercession for all mothers and women, that they may be blessed with courage, wisdom, patience, and grace in their vocation of love and service. We pray also for those who are struggling, grieving, or far from family, that they may be strengthened and comforted in God’s love, and for all families, that they may grow in faith, unity, and peace.
NAME TAG SUNDAY: This Sunday at the Cathedral, we invite everyone to join in a new pilot “Name Tag Sunday”. Each person will have the opportunity to write their name on a tag, making it easier for us all to greet each other personally and foster a stronger sense of community at tea after 10h00 Mass. Please do stay after Mass and enjoy connecting with fellow parishioners by name.
MASS INTENTIONS: Parishioners wishing to request a Mass for a particular intention or in memory of a loved one may obtain Mass intention envelopes at each church entrance. Please use these envelopes to submit your request; note that only one intention may be offered per Mass celebration. You will receive confirmation of the scheduled date for your requested Mass within the following week. This longstanding and pious Catholic tradition is encouraged.
MARRIAGES: Planning to marry in the Catholic Church? Please give at least six months’ notice, as required by the Archdiocese. Contact the Cathedral office at cathedral@adct.org.za to set up a meeting with a priest, who will assist you with the Pre-Nuptial Enquiry.
CHILD PROTECTION MONTH: The month of May marks the beginning of Child Protection Month. Our parish fully supports the Archdiocesan Child Safeguarding Policy. For more information, please consult the Archdiocesan website or our church notice boards. You may also speak to Margie Cook, our Child Safeguarding Coordinator.
SECRET GARDEN COFFEE SHOP: Kindly support our Secret Garden Coffee Shop, located in the Cathedral Parish Centre. Open Wed-Friday 07h00 – 15h00.
