Resident Clergy

Cathedral Administrator:

The Very Rev. Robert Bissell 

Fr Robert was born in East London. He attended boarding school at Dale College and then went to University of Stellenbosch where he attained a BSc and LLB.

He was ordained as deacon on 14 May 2004 and as priest on 7 January 2005.  He spent time in Rome from 2011 to 2016 where he studied Canon Law and obtained a M. Juris JCL and JCD. Returning to South Africa he then became parish priest in Strand from 2016 to 2017 and then at Constantia Catholic Church from 2017 – April 2024

He served as the Episcopal Vicar for Property until August 2020 when he then was appointed to the position of Judicial Vicar. Father Robert also serves the Archdiocese on the Archdiocesan Finance Council and the College of Consulters. Interdiocesan Tribunal: The Cape Town Interdiocesan Tribunal (also known as the Marriage Tribunal) is the Ecclesiastical Court of the Archdiocese of Cape Town.

Assistant Priest:

Rev Fr. Paul Moore 

Fr Paul was ordained on 16 December 2025. He completed his priestly formation at the Redemptoris Mater Seminary in Rondebosch and served as a deacon at St Stephen’s, Rocklands.

Originally from Glasgow, Fr Paul has lived in South Africa for the past 11 years. He assists the administrator in a range of pastoral and liturgical duties, including celebrating Mass at the various Mass centres and overseeing several chaplaincies, among them St Mary’s Primary School.

Resident Priest:

Rev Fr. Christian Frantz

Fr Christian has been a resident priest at the Cathedral since 2021. Ordained on 3 December 1995, he has served in numerous parishes throughout the Archdiocese. He supports the Administrator and Assistant Priest in a variety of pastoral duties, including celebrating Mass and visiting the sick. In addition, he serves as the Archdiocesan Prison Chaplain and works within the Interdiocesan Tribunal (Marriage Tribunal).
