THANK YOU: We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported our response to Afrophobia in our community during the past week. Your generosity through donations, volunteering your time in transporting food/toiletries, making sandwiches, or simply ministering to those awaiting voluntary repatriation, has been a true testament to living the Gospel. The ecumenical spirit that has flourished among us, as we stood together against hatred within our parish boundaries, shows the strength and unity of our community. Your actions have brought hope and encouragement to many.

STANDING IN SOLIDARITY AGAINST AFROPHOBIA: We continue be deeply saddened by the ongoing incidents of Afrophobia in our country. Like those of our parish who were able to join us at St Georges for the silent solidarity, we continue to stand together as one family in Christ, embracing all members of our parish, particularly those from other lands who have made South Africa their home. Your presence continues to enrich our community, and we assure you of our prayers, support, and friendship during this challenging time. The Gospel compels us to honour the sacred dignity of every person, made in the image of God. Rooted in Christ’s teachings, we choose justice and uphold the law, firmly rejecting violence, intimidation, and vigilantism. Such behaviour stands in direct opposition to the values of our faith and has no place within our parish or society. Christ calls us to love every neighbour without exception. As fear and displacement affect many, let us respond with compassion and generosity, recognising Christ in all we meet. Our community is strongest when we actively reflect Christ’s transformative love.
PASSING OF ANNA HAGABIMANA: It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Anna, a devoted and long-standing member of our parish community. Anna’s gentle presence, often seen quietly praying before both weekend and weekday Masses, will be sorely missed by all who knew her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time. May her soul rest in God’s eternal peace. Funeral arrangements will be shared with the parish as soon as they are confirmed
SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEK: Please remember that a second collection will be taken up at all Masses this weekend in support of Peter’s Pence. This annual collection is a tangible expression of our unity with the Holy Father and assists him in responding to the needs of the Universal Church, as well as providing charitable assistance to those most in need around the world. Thank you in advance for your prayerful generosity and support.
SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEK: Next weekend, the second collection will be dedicated to
Seafarers Sunday. Please note that envelopes for the Seafarers Sunday Collection will only be available next week to avoid any confusion between the two collections. The Seafarers Sunday Collection is a special initiative to support the pastoral care and welfare of seafarers. These men and women face challenging conditions, isolation, and long separations from loved ones. Through your generosity, the Church provides spiritual support, practical assistance, and a welcoming presence to seafarers in ports around the world. Thank you for caring for those who keep global trade moving and often go unseen.
CATECHISM CLASSES: Please note that Catechism classes have stopped for the duration of the school holidaysand will resume on Sunday 26 July. We wish all our children, parents, catechists, and teachers a blessed, peaceful, and restful holiday. May this be a time of joy, refreshment, and God’s abundant blessings for you and your families. We look forward to warmly welcoming everyone back to our parish when classes resume.
CARLENE ON LEAVE: Please note that our Cathedral Secretary will be on leave from Tuesday, 30 June until Tuesday, 21 July. We wish Carlene a blessed and restful break and look forward to welcoming her back later in July.
