BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Bring your special furkid (or feathered, or other!) to be blessed at St George’s Cathedral as we celebrate the Feast of St Francis, patron of animals and ecology. Only animals on leashes or in cages will be allowed. Sunday, 5 October 2025 Time: 11:45 am – We proceed by foot from the Secret Garden to arrive at St George’s Cathedral, Wale Street by 12:00pm. Blessed are you, Lord God, maker of all living creatures. You called forth fish in the sea, birds in the air and animals on the land. You inspired St Francis to call all of them his brothers and sisters. We ask you to bless our animal companions. By the power of your love, may we live together according to your plan. May we always praise you for your beauty in creation. Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen

THIS SUNDAY, 5 OCTOBER: We kindly request that those who are able to assist, return to St Mary’s Cathedral after the Blessing of the Animals, to help with packing up of the Cathedral.  The moveable goods need to be stored in the Parish Centre for the duration of the renovation.  Please bring along a platter towards the “Bring and Share” in the Parish Hall.  If you are attending another Mass or do not wish to attend the Blessing of the Animals, please do join us to assist in clearing out the Cathedral. We will begin at 13:00 pm. The more help we get, the more efficient it will be. Thank you in anticipation of your assistance!

THE SHORTENED JUBILEE PRAYER: (On Screens)

Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your Son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your kingdom. May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven.  May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth.  To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever, Amen.

We are always thankful to all those who contribute financially each week. Please prayerfully consider making a donation as it does benefit our parish in many important ways. You are also welcome to use SnapScan or the YOCO tap machines to make a donation. Banking details:    Standard Bank
